Brighton gets taste of the Far East

Four-day Tiger Festival mixes club nights and cinema.

Brighton cinemagoers can enjoy the flavour of film from the Far East in the four-day Tiger Festival, running across the town from May 31 to June 3.

The festival - sponsored by Tiger beer - is a new event on the festival circuit, with plans to expand it to a week-long festival in 2008.

Six films from the Far East will be screened at Brighton's independent Duke of York's Picturehouse, including The Banquet, starring Zhang Zhiyi and Zhang Yimou's latest festival favourite, Riding Alone For Thousands Of Miles.

The festival opens with the award-winning Paprika, and closes with the explosive action of Dragon Tiger Gate.

Also in the line-up are Thai thriller Shutter, action movie PTU - Police Tactical Unit

The opening night party, held at Concorde2 will feature hip hop, breaks and soul from the visionary producer, and one half of 4hero, Marc Mac, plus The Qemists, with an inventive three-man DJ set (Free entry, limited to the first 300 to email name and favourite far east film to party@oortmedia.net).

Bringing together the UKsÂ1 best upcoming soul, electronica and hip hop talent, the Saturday night party at the Sussex Arts Club presents Elmore Judd and Eric Lau plus guests. Judd, the alter ego of Jesse Hackett, is performing with his full band, including brother Louis Slipperz (Raw Dog).
