Following his conviction in December 2022, a Los Angeles court has sentenced Harvey Weinstein to 16 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. This sentence will begin after he has finished serving the 23 year sentence he previously received in New York, so he will not be due for release until he is 109.

"There is no prison sentence long enough to undo the damage," said one of his victims today.

Weinstein continues to claim that he is innocent and is currently in the process of appealing against his New York conviction. His lawyers had asked the Los Angeles court for a minimum three year sentence on the basis that he has children and sometimes gives money to charity.

"Please don't sentence me to life in prison, I don't deserve it," he begged the judge, claiming that he had been set up and that the primary victim in the case could not be trusted because she was an actress. He made no attempt to explain why so many other women have made similar claims about his behaviour.

Three other charges brought to the Los Angeles court were dropped when the judge declared a mistrial, but may yet be retried.
