Soda Pictures announces British film initiative

Distributor launches touring programme to showcase home-grown talent.

Film distributor Soda Pictures has announced a new touring programme called New British Cinema Quarterly.

The programme will showcase the work of four British filmmakers with distinctive and original films selected from the UK's major film festivals. A new film will screen each quarter at a minimum of 15 partner venues across the UK and be accompanied by a Q&A from the director or associated talent.

The first film in the programme is 1234 - and it will launch will launch the New British Cinema Quarterly at the Glasgow Film Festival on February 24, before beginning its nationwide tour.

The other films are No Greater Love, directed by Michael Whyte, Skeletons, directed by Nick Whitfield and a final film to be selected from this year's forthcoming festivals.

Each film will be released individually on DVD and at the end of the year all will be included in a box set alongside the New British Cinema Annual: a publication of opinions and analysis encompassing the full spectrum of British cinema in 2010.

Soda Pictures Managing Director Edward Fletcher said: "We have to address the lack of distribution opportunities for British films and advances in digital distribution and exhibition have made a programme like this possible.

"Our aim is to work with our venue partners to engage their local creative community and incentivise them through the chance to engage with those who have 'done it'. There will be more exciting additions to this programme as it develops, so watch this space."

Glasgow Film Festival co-director Alison Gardner, said “We are delighted to be hosting the launch of this new initiative. Soda Pictures is ahead of the game in terms of releasing quality British product and supporting British talent.

"This approach matches the Glasgow Film Festival's overall aim of providing opportunities for film audiences to watch a more diverse range of films."
