Kate Winslet doubled up at the Golden Globes in LA last night, scooping two best actress awards.
The Reading-born actress who has been nominated for Globes five times in the past without winning, made up for lost time with her gongs for best actress in Revolutionary Road and best supporting actress in The Reader.
It was a great night for British film, as Danny Boyle's Mumbai-based Slumdog Millionaire ran away with four awards, including beating off stiff competition from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Reader and Frost/Nixon, to be named best drama and best director.
Collecting one of his many awards, Boyle said: "Your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated."
British actress Sally Hawkins also continued her awards run, and was quite overcome after being named best comedy actress for Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky, while Colin Farrell was named best comedy actor for In Bruges.Heath Ledger was awarded a posthumous supporting actor award for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, while Mickey Rourke won the hotly contested best actor award over Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Leonardo DiCaprio (Revolutionary Road) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon).
Winslet's best actress award for Revolutionary Road - about a Fifties frustrated housewife - was a particular shock, after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organises the Globes, mistakenly identified Anne Hathaway as the winner as best dramatic actor on Friday.
Accepting her award she thanked husband Sam Mendes for directing the film and "killing us every single day".
Pixar's Wall-E was named best animated feature, while animated documentary Waltz With Bashir received the award for best foreign language film.
