Kung Fu Panda is leading the charge for the 36th International Animated Film Society's Annie Awards, with 16 nominations.
The DreamWorks cartoon about an overweight, but kick-ass panda, will fight it out for the top prize of best animated feature with Pixar's Oscar-tipped Wall•E, Sony Pictures' groundbreaking documentary about the 1982 Lebanese War, Waltz With Bashir and Disney's 3-D not-so-shaggy dog story Bolt.
Also in the running for the top gong is outsider $9.99. This Israeli-Australian co-produced stop-motion animation from Sherman Pictures/Lama Films tells the stories of the tenants of an apartment block, but has no UK release date yet.
British animation Wallace And Gromit: A Matter Of Loaf And Death, receives a nomination in the short animation category, while other films receiving multiple nods include Universal Pictures' The Tale Of Desperaux - about a little mouse with a big heart - and Blue Sky Studio's Elephant extravaganza Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who.
The awards will be presented in Los Angeles on January 30, 2009.
