Oscar hope for Scottish short

LA Festival win sees Elephant Boy considered for Academy nomination

A Scottish short film is in contention for an Oscar nomination after scooping an award at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival. Elephant Boy netted the Best Foreign Film title.

Made as part of a scheme sponsored by Scottish TV, Grampian TV and Scottish Screen, called New Found Land, Elephant Boy is an exploration of an physically handicapped Indian street kid's dream of a better life.

The short is in contention for an Oscar nomination as all winners at the LA festival are automatically put forward for consideration for the Academy Awards shortlist.

Recently, Elephant Boy, which was written and directed by Glasgow-based René Mohandas, scooped the Best Independent Film prize at the Canadian International Annual Film Festival.
