Skeins
"Interesting to a point, but feels as though deeper digging is needed to really get to the heart of the attraction."

You can file this documentary under ‘quirky’. Unfortunately, it also plays out as something of an advertising campaign for Sofi’s Bar in Leith. Not, you understand, that there’s anything wrong with Sofi’s – it’s a nice place – but it has rather too strong a presence in this documentary on knitting.

Admittedly, it is a major player, since it is in the pub’s back bar that women get together once a week to swap stories and patterns over a glass of white wine. They tell their stories and their reasons for knitting over the click of the needles. It’s interesting to a point, but feels as though deeper digging is needed to really get to the heart of the attraction.

Also, the director’s synopsis suggests the pub is on “a street you avoid after dark” which I can confirm, as one who lives just around the corner, is a right load of old tosh. All that said, there are things to commend about this film, particularly nicely animated segments which bookend various scenes.
