Lonely Boy

Lonely Boy

****1/2

Reviewed by: Angus Wolfe Murray

This is the story of a baby abused by its mother, seeking warmth in human contact, finding none, growing into a recluse, forever hopeful.

He is called "an elsewhere boy", but as a man remains outside, never been loved, never been touched, damned, virginal and alone.

His life is told by a narrative voice and illustrated by rough black-and-white line drawings, with splashes of occasional colour.

The story is tragic, the writing wonderful and the narration sensitively read. This is exactly where art and film merge.

It is a marriage of the heart.
