Cheerleading as an Olympic sport? Any day now.

Scraping the barrel of teen movie plots, a competetive cheer squad from Rancho Carne High School, San Diego, battle to regain their title at the national finals in Florida.

There is disaffection in the team. They discover that their routines have been stolen from a rival squad in East Compton. They hire a posey choreographer with humiliating results.

Cheerleading used to be peachy blondes waving pom poms at football games. Now it's a mixture between synchronised swimming (the dry version), acrobatics and dance.

Apart from practice practice practice, there is a burgeoning love interest between the team skipper (Kirsten Dunst) and the new kid from LA (Jesse Bradford), which redefines tedium.

Following the fashion of the moment, girls are on top and boys are either two-timers, gay or not interesting. As for the national finals, do you really care?
