A Short Film About The Beauty Shop
Reviewed by: Amber Wilkinson
This engaging short is doubtless what fans of The Beauty Shop - an alt country rock combo from Illinois, not a fake tan boutique - have been waiting for.
For those of us unfamiliar with their music, however, it doesn't hold a great deal of interest. That said, it is neatly directed, with Francis Macdonald using subtitles to indicate the questions ask, cutting in singer John Hoeffleur's answers against some of The Beauty Shop's music.
Hoeffleur has a voice reminiscent of Crash Test Dummies' Brad Roberts, with a deep timbre and his interview is informative and frank.
Although providing a good showcase for The Beauty Shop's music, sure to snare a few newcomers to their work, this is really a fans' film.
