A Equals A

As a pop video, this has intimations of inventiveness. By using the format of a comic strip and then going in behind the artwork to a real life drama of a raid on a warehouse, Stephen Anderson has created his own virtual world, complete with platinum blonde and the inevitable locked safe. As the song says, it's all about "opening the box."
As a bonus to this clever piece of film, there's a neat twist at the end. All very simple - that's comic books for you - and deeply satisfying. The final message, splashed across the screen, is equally defiant: "All Artists Are Criminals."
Pop videos can be pretentious, baffling, narcissistic, boring, sexy or fun. This is fun.
Also, there's a whole lot of imagination going on.
