American Fiction and Origin were this big winners at this year's African American Film Critics' Association (AAFCA) Awards, while The Color Purple triumphed in the acting awards, winning Best Ensemble and tying with The Holdovers for Best Supporting Actress (Danielle Brooks and Da'Vine Joy Randolph respectively). "What a great year for cinema showcasing the vibrant tapestry of Black storytelling, where diversity is not a trend, but an imperative," said AAFCA president and co-founder Gil Robertson. "This year's winners have inspired, challenged, and moved us and we are delighted to celebrate them and their cultural impact."

Established in 2003, AAFCA is the world's leading body of Black film critics, actively reviewing film and television, with a particular emphasis on entertainment that includes the Black experience and storytellers from the African Diaspora.
