The Trial Of The Chicago 7 |
As expected Chadwick Boseman won Best Actor at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards for his work in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, but there was a surprise in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast category, with The Trial Of The Chicago 7 taking the prize. The film, which follows the court case proceeding from the uprising at the Democratic National Convention in 1968, had received a lot of nominations in other awards but had yet to score a big win, so this victory will boost its Oscar hopes as well as delighting its actors with praise from their peers.
This was the first time in the event's history that all the individual film award winners were people of colour, suggesting that change finally is coming to Hollywood.
