Star Wars won't stop at three trilogies, says Disney.

In fantasy literature circles, the notion of trilogies stopping at three has long been deprecated. Now it seems that the same logic is to apply to film. There was the original Star Wars trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and now the Force Awakens trilogy, which looks set to be extended indefinitely into the future. Disney has announced that four new films are already in production and it has no intention of stopping after Episode IX.

One Star Wars film is scheduled for release each year between now and 2019. After that, the release schedule is unclear.

The news comes just days after it was confirmed that Rogue One, a film set in the same universe but focused on different heroes, which is due out in December this year, will feature Darth Vader.
