Something of a glaring omission from this year's Oscar nominations, Todd Haynes' lesbian romance Carol has won five prizes at this year's Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics' Awards, including Film of the Year. The awards are not restricted to LGBTQ film and Leonardo DiCaprio has been recognised for his performance in The Revenant, further strengthening his position as Oscar favourite.

Outsider hit Tangerine, which follows two trans sex workers through a trying day in the City of Angels, secured the title of Unsung Film of the Year after what has been a disappointing awards season so far for actresses who were tipped to do well.
