The film, charting the US president's battles in the Civil War and within his cabinet is in the running for 10 awards, including best film, best actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) and best supporting roles (Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field).

Musical adaptation Les Misérables and Ang Lee's adaptation of Life Of Pi received nine nominations each, including best film. Other films in the running for the top prize on February 10 are Ben Affleck's Iran-set thriller Argo and Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty.
