Sometimes real life and the movies become close in ways best avoided. News emerged today that Jonathan Andrew Stenberg - suspected of decapitating a man in New South Wales, Australia - successfully won a role in a serial killer film whilst he was on the run.

The film, Mystery Road, stars Hugo Weaving and Jack Thompson and tells the story of a detective seeking answers after a young girl's body is discovered in the outback. Stenberg applied for the role of a policeman, using a false name and describing himself as a qualified weapons instructor. He has since been arrested and is awaiting trial.

The news comes a day after a severed head discovered in a Montreal park was tentatively identified as belonging to Jun Lin, the alleged victim of adult film star Luka Rocco Magnotta, who is believed to have murdered him and posted a video of the crime on the internet before posting parts of his body to politicians. Magnotta is also in police custody.
