"We're very proud of this film," said producer Gillian Berrie as Glasgow's Cinema City festival opened tonight with Perfect Sense. Starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green, the film tells the story of a chef and an epidemiologist who fall in love during the outbreak of a mysterious disease that destroys people's sensory perception. It is also notable for being set in Glasgow, a city which often stands in for more famous locales.
"We want to carry on making films here," said Berrie, who also produced Red Road and the festival-set romance You Instead, which is due to appear in cinemas next month. She was keen to praise Glasgow City Council "who were very supportive and overlooked most of our crimes and misdemeanours. We have very big and exciting plans for the future here."
"Glasgow has a huge interest in film," said former Lord Provost Liz Cameron, who now works full time promoting the arts in Scotland. She noted that the City Chambers have, in their time, doubled for both the Vatican and the Kremlin, and that her old office there was actually used as Gillian Anderson's bedroom in House Of Mirth, which is also showing in the festival.
Cinema City will also feature a shorts programme, which kicked off tonight with competitive walking comedy Pedestrian.
