A look back before Doomsday

Neil Marshall Celebrated at Film4 FrightFest Event

by Anton Bitel

Not only is Neil Marshall currently Britain's most successful director in the horror genre, but both he and his films regularly show up at FrightFest, Britain's finest and ever-expanding horror festival. So it is fitting that, in the run-up to the general UK release (from 9th May) of Marshall's new film Doomsday, Film4 FrightFest should celebrate the director with a retrospective of his two previous films, as well as the London premier of his latest.

Kicking off at 11.40 am on Saturday 3rd May at the Odeon West End, there will be screenings of Marshall's werewolf debut Dog Soldiers (2002) and his subterranean psychochiller The Descent (2005), followed by a special preview of Doomdsay itself – Marshall's loving homage to the post-apocalyptic action flicks of his eighties youth (think Road Warrior, only transplanted to future Scotland). A bevy of cast members from all three films will be in attendance, and Marshall himself will be on hand for introductions, Q&A sessions and signings.

Day Passes are £16 (tickets for individual films will not be available), and can be purchased now from the Odeon West End box office during cinema opening hours, the Odeon ticket call centre on 0871 22 41 983 daily and on-line from www.odeon.co.uk. More information can be found at http://www.frightfest.co.uk/doomsdayday.html.

So if you are fed up with British period pieces or kitchen sink dramas, come check out the work of one of the nation's most vibrant genre craftsmen.
