Oscar-winning director Andrea Arnold is shooting principle photograrphy for her debut feature film in Glasgow over the next month or so.
Dartford film-maker Arnold, 44 - who first found fame in Britain on children's TV shows Number 73 and Motormouth - took the Best Short Film (Live Action) category gong at the Academy awards with Wasp, a gritty drama about a single mum.
At the time she said she was "overwhelmed" by the response but her success has clearly helped her to find funding Red Road - which was awarded £436,144 of National Lottery funding through the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund.
Red Road is described as "a powerful tale of obsession and forgiveness that will echo Arnold's award-winning skill of delivering powerfully realist narrative."
The New Cinema Fund has £15 million to invest over three years. To date, it has supported over 40 feature films including Kevin Macdonald's Touching the Void, (Best British Film, BAFTA 2004; Best British Film, Evening Standard Film Awards, 2004), Emily Young's Kiss of Life (Carl Foreman Award, BAFTA 2004) and Peter Mullan's The Magdalene Sisters (Golden Lion, Venice Film Festival 2002, MEDIA 2003 Award).
