Eye For Film >> Movies >> This Is England '88 (2011) DVD Review
A mixed set of fairly short extras - some interesting and others rather bland. The cast focuses mainly on the fact they have not worked together since This is England ’86. It is revealed that Shane Meadows kept most of the actors away from each other in order to bring more dramatic tension to the scenes.
The In Between takes section is standard behind-the-scenes footage of the actors bonding on set. The deleted scenes are intriguing, as they seem to involve humour, which was sadly missing from the series.
The biggest shame is that Gilgun and McClure only provide commentary on the final episode. It is a heartfelt interesting talk between two close friends, who discuss how difficult the series was to make and Gilgun opens up about his problems with depression.
