Beware Of The Holy Whore
Aspect ratio: 4:3; Sound: 2.0 audio with optional English subtitles
Extras: Trailer
Our reviewer, Keith Hennessey Brown's, verdict: Made under the auspices of the Fassbinder Foundation, this Region 2 DVD looks good, with Michael Ballhaus's cinematography crisp and vibrant. The audio is clear as are the subtitles. While these only only translate those sections of the dialogue that are in German it can be assumed that this is intentional as a means of conveying the confusion of languages and meanings that pervades the film. The only extra is the original German trailer for the film, playing up its controversy – the kind of thing, that is, that one would like to have known a bit more about."

The Bitter Tears Of Petra Von Kant
Aspect Ratio: 4:3; Sound: 2.0 audio with optional English subtitles Extras: End of the Commune (47:17mins), Harry Baer Interview (40:53mins) Our reviewer Moominkat's verdict: "Certainly, the feature film interview with Harry Baer (included on this DVD) made think about the film in a slightly different light – because of course, this is Fassbinder writing about his personal experience of a failed gay love affair (he was openly bisexual). Harry Baer tells us he remembers some of the dialogue in the play/film being used for real in arguments between Fassbinder and his lover. I’m afraid that even knowing this didn’t make the film a better watch for me."
