A welcome 30th anniversary re-release in a format that finally does credit to the quality of its cinematography will, one hopes, bring The Killing Fields to a new audience. It remains as powerful as ever and its ongoing use as an educational tool is testament to its relevance, but it's also a superb pieces of cinema thoroughly deserving of repeat viewing.

This edition includes lengthy interviews with producer David Puttnam, director Roland Joffé and scriptwriter Bruce Robinson. Far more substantial than the average DVD interview, these contemplate politics and philosophy as well as the filmmaking process itself. they include a lot of valuable content for other filmmakers and will prove fascinating with anyone interested in the wider context of the Cambodian conflict.
