Eye For Film >> Movies >> Pumpkinhead (1989) DVD Review
Filmed in standard widescreen, the 1.85:1 anamorphic picture isn't particularly stunning. Not is there anything wrong with it. Stan Winston's flat photography is largely to blame. But the scenes shot with overly floodlit blue and red come through alright. The low-budget nature of the production is evident but never distracting. At least we got it in widescreen. The Region one version by MGM is in crappy pan and scan so be thankful for Tartan Terror providing us with the OAR. It's about the best the film is ever likely to look.
The bland stereo sound design is merely adequate. There are no standout moments in the film and nothing of particular sonic interest. You couldn't ask for a simpler sounding film. Well, it could be in mono I guess...
Trailers for Pumpkinhead, Bundy, Trauma, Bride of Reanimator, Society, Dario Argento's Phantom of the Opera and the Hershell Gordon Lewis Collection are also included.
