Phantasm IV: Oblivion

Filmed in standard widescreen, Phantasm IV is the best looking of all the movies in the series, as is to be expected from a more recent production. But since the mood of the film is far more sinister a serious and atmospheric approach has been considered for the photography. The 1.85:1 anamorphic picture exhibits the moody film perfectly with practically nothing to complain of. Blacks are deep and bold, the desert scenery is warm and even the older footage spliced in with the rest feels seamless.

The Dolby Digital and DTS tracks bring a lot of atmosphere to the aural design and, even in the quieter scenes, the sound of the wind blowing, or noises in the darkness, really make it work.

Don, Reg and Angus Scrimm get together again for this last commentary and once again go through the motions of production stories, trivia and story description. It sounds boring and nothing special, but they pass the time pretty quickly.
