Eye For Film >> Movies >> No Way Out (1950) Blu-Ray Review
This important film noir is long overdue a Blu-ray release, but the high quality version available here goes some way towards making up for it. Although the lengthy interviews with director Joseph L Mankiewicz are rather dry and more for devotees than for the average viewer, adding little to the experience of the film, the period newsreels are fascinating. The trailer focuses on those elements most likely to appeal to a conventional white audience of the era whilst simultaneously emphasising how different and groundbreaking the film is - eliding most of what qualifies it for that status. There's also a beautifully presented collector's booklet which includes a new essay on the film, helping to place it in historical context and explain its significance to an industry on the brink of change.
