Eye For Film >> Movies >> Never Apologize (2007) DVD Review
Never Apologize's video quality is rather crap - overcompressed and noisy, with poor definition on anything. The black stage background is a wash of MPEG-2 macroblocking. Whether these issues can be attributed to the source - video cameras with a low shadow tolerance - is possible, but overcompression exacerbates the situation. The whole DVD contents are compressed to 3.7 GB, where a single layer DVD can hold 4.7GB, and a dual layer disc can hold up to 8.5 GB.
Audio is servicable enough, which is all it need be, really. Voice is well-recorded.
The DVD has few extras - a trailer, and a short deleted scene whereupon they give Laurence Olivier a memorial. A welcome cut, since it draws away from the strong Anderson narrative.
