Eye For Film >> Movies >> Machete (2010) Blu-Ray Review
Given that Machete was based on a fake trailer made specifically to be shown during a double bill of Planet Terror and Death Proof, and that it is a love letter to cheap-ass exploitation movies whose titles and trailers promised all kinds of grimy pleasures the films themselves could never live up to, the extra features to complement this Blu-Ray release are severely lacking.
That it also has such a cool cast of actors getting in on the joke also makes the absence of any kind of commentary or making-of featurette all the more lamentable. This disc would have benefited from a commentary track at the very least, especially since the core audience for Machete – and the kind of sleazy grindhouse movies it lovingly apes – are so dedicated and avid. Machete is a fan-boy movie, it relies on its core audience’s awareness, yet there’s noting here to acknowledge that. A discussion on the appeal of grindhouse B-movies wouldn’t have gone amiss either, just to provide further context.
