Les Miserables In Concert

Read Ben Sillis's film review of Les Miserables In ConcertThe DVD extras comprise a solitary documentary on the Making Of the musical, one that was originally aired 17 years ago on Channel 4. It hasn't dated much, however, and remains fascinating, if run of the mill. Cameron Mackintosh comes off looking like a bit of a twerp ("It is both entertaining, thrilling and moving"), but as well as the usual discussion of all the trials and tribulations that The Team had to work so hard to overcome, etc, the original authors Boublil and Schonberg are on hand to explain what it's actually about, much needed with such convoluted plot and lyrics. The numerous clips from various performances have also a lot more energy than the feature concert, and help to make the documentary an interesting bonus.
The feature presentation is in 16:9 ratio and has a crisp presentation compared to most theatrical recordings, and there are subtitles for the hard of hearing.
