Read David Haviland's film review of Johnny Got His GunJohnny Got His Gun is released on Region 2 widescreen DVD by Arrow Films, presumably in response to renewed interest in the film after it featured in Metallica's One music video
Technically it's an excellent print, conveying both the grainy claustrophobia of the black-and-white sequences and the Norman Rockwell idealism of the colour scenes of Joe's youth.
However, it would have been nice to see at least some extras, particularly given the fascinating stories about Trumbo's life, the film's genesis and context in the anti-Vietnam movement.
Disappointingly, all there is is the film itself and a Scene Select option, offering 20 chapters. No trailer, no commentary and no biographies.
