Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law, Vol. 2

Read Anton Bitel's film review of Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law, Vol. 2This two-disc set includes 13 episodes taken from the second and third Seasons. Eight of these episodes (Blackwatch Plaid, Peanut Puberty, Guitar Control, Booty Noir, Harvey's Civvy, X Gets The Crest, Birdgirl Of Guantanamole, Beyond The Valley Of The Dinosaurs) are accompanied by an optional audio commentary from creators Michael Ouweleen and Erik Richter and various voice artists, while a ninth (Evolutionary Wars) gets the commentary treatment from a gaggle of the show's compositors, inkers and animators.
These commentaries are often as free-wheeling and desultory as the show itself, but this also ensures that they are always good-humoured – and amid all the random banter we learn that Richter himself sang the show's catchy theme song, that many of the key voice cast have never actually met each other, that Guitar Control was aired repeatedly on Election Night in the US and that a lot of fans assume (incorrectly) that Ouweleen and Richter are a gay couple. Meanwhile, Paget Brewster (Birdgirl) gives voice to the question on everyone's lips: "Do you think people masturbate to Birdgirl?" ("Yes!" replies Ouweleen, without any hesitation).
There is also a bunch of short, sweet and funny extras (the longest being six minutes) that, almost by accident, offer occasional insights into the creative process behind the show – and the 12 superfast promos are particularly amusing.
