The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 picture is a huge improvement over the previous letterboxed DVD and has better fleshtones and is generally clearer and more pleasing. But there are still flaws, including permanent grain, pixalization and weak blacks. It becomes very irritating, but this is the best Evil Dead 2 is likely to look so we should be thankful.

Theatrically released in Mono, the new Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is a limited improvement. Chilling effects are cleverly distributed to the Stereo and Surround channels while the.1LE really kicks in during the "evil force" scenes and rumbles fear into your body.

The documentary is extensive but focuses more on the production of the film and the make-up effects rather than the story or the reasoning behind the script. There are interviews and anecdotes with Robert Kurtzman and Mike Trcic and a silly short film at the end. Raimi is not featured too often and neither is Campbell, which is a shame, because the film belonged to them.

The commentary by Raimi, Campbell and producer Robert Tapert is very cool, though. It is informative, especially for budding filmmakers, and quite amusing. They have a lot to say about production and you'll have more fun watching the movie with commentary than without it.

A trailer is also included.
