Deepwater

First up, some deleted scenes – almost always a pleasure. After the final scene’s twist, these feel rather anticlimactic though, and in truth it’s much of the same – tough kid Nat and gnarling Finch doing their yokel thing. No real insight is given, or even hinted at, as to why these episodes got the snip – and they’re no worse than the final fodder.

Along with a theatrical trailer, the only other bonus of note is a behind-the-scenes featurette. Thriller and horror deconstructions like these always seem a bit deconstructive to me though – it’s like being told that Santa’s not real (this film is rated 15, so no kids ought to be reading this). Good to know, for sure, but isn’t everything a lot more mechanical and boring afterwards?

Secretly I was hoping that Peter Coyote would be a manipulative, arrogant scumbag in real life – but, of course it’s not so. In reality, he’s cuddlier than a teddy bear. Coyote not so ugly.
