A Matter Of Taste: Serving Up Paul Liebrandt

Read James Benefield's film review of A Matter Of Taste: Serving Up Paul LiebrandtFor a relatively modest documentary, the extras here are an unexpected surprise. However, they're a mixed bag.
First off, there's 20 minutes of interviews with chefs who serve as talking heads in the main feature – Heston Blumenthal, Thomas Keller and Eric Ripert. Refreshingly, they're not about Paul Liebrandt, but the subject of cooking and notable aspects of each chef's career. It gives some great context to Liebrandt's passion and also to the world of fine dining.
Elsewhere, there are two short films. The first is a short film with Liebrandt (apparently – we don't see his face) creating some amuse bouche. It is, to some extent, a nouvelle cuisine portion of gastroporn (it is only two minutes long) and does come across like a particularly indulgent advert for a higher-end supermarket. But it's kind of fun. The other short film is laden down with piano music and features numerous shots of leaves, dead fish and mushrooms. It's very odd.
